Studying at EKA
Please find attached below EKA Course Catalogue with courses offered for international students in the English language. As in our University the language of instruction is mainly Latvian (except the courses provided for the Translation and Interpretation programme), we offer these courses for international students in English in the form of individual tutoring/ consultations. For enhancing English language skills, it is recommended to choose also some courses taught to local student in English (see the attached EKA Course Catalogue), to have the possibility to integrate more with local students. Course in Latvian is available upon request.
EKA uses Latvian credit point system that is compatible to ECTS. Transfer of Latvian credits into ECTS requires multiplication by a factor of 1.5. One Latvian credit point (or 1.5 ECTS) is defined as a one-week full-time study workload, i.e. 40 student work hours. An average workload of a full-time student is 40 credits (60 ECTS) per academic year – 20 credits (30 ECTS) per semester.
Grading system in Latvian higher education institutions
The 10 point grading system is used for evaluating students’ learning achievements.
