Covid-19 is a new infectious disease caused by the coronavirus. The new virus and the disease it caused were not known until the outbreak in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The most common symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, tiredness, sore throat, dry cough and shortness of breath. The disease can be spread from an infected person to another by tiny drops, coughing, breathing air from a distance, or sneezing. Informative page about the spread of Covid-19 in Latvia

The “Apturi Covid”(Stop Covid) app is the fastest way to find out if you have been in contact with someone who has Covid-19.

If you have been diagnosed with Covid-19, you will be contacted by a doctor by phone and given instructions for further treatment. When contacting your GP, provide as accurate information as possible about your medical condition and follow your doctor′s instructions. In case of mild symptoms, treatment takes place at home. If the symptoms of the disease are severe, the patient is treated inpatient.

If your health suddenly deteriorates, call the Emergency Medical Service immediately at 113!

The patient is considered healthy after the clinical symptoms have disappeared and if repeated tests for coronavirus are negative (the doctor requests an examination).

Family members and people living in the same apartment or house (household) with a patient with confirmed Covid-19 infection are considered high-risk contact persons. Whether a person with a confirmed Covid-19 infection is in a hospital or at home, people living with the patient are subject to home quarantine or self-isolation.

Persons returning to Latvia from countries where the 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population exceeds 15 must carry out self-isolation at the place of residence (home quarantine) for the next 14 days. During this time, the person is advised to monitor their state of health and contact a family doctor if there are any signs of a respiratory infection (cough, sore throat, fever).

14-day self-isolation is not required if you arrive in Latvia from countries published on the Latvian Centre for Disease Prevention and Control website, where the 14 - day cumulative indicator does not exceed 15.
