In this study program, you will learn how to combine art, programming, and storytelling to create visually stunning games and become part of the game development process – from idea to finished product. What will you learn?
- The basics of computer game development: from idea to prototype – in both 2D and 3D environments.
- Computer game programming: you will learn to code, test, and prototype games.
- Artistic skills: colour theory, composition, character design, animation, and computer graphics.
- Project management: you will be able to plan and manage software development projects.
- Digital technologies: working with virtual, augmented, and mixed reality solutions;
- Portfolio development: creating a collection of personal work to showcase your skills and creativity;
- Audio design: creating and integrating sound into games.
What will you do?
- Develop game concepts, storylines, and game mechanics that attract and retain players′ attention;
- Create original characters, environments, and visual effects using professional 2D and 3D design tools;
- You will animate objects and characters, program interactive games, and use augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies.
- Work in a team on real projects, developing collaboration, communication, and project management skills.
- Learn how to make games visible – learn the basics of digital marketing, create a brand, plan campaigns, and attract an audience.
- You will compose sound effects and background music, learn the principles of audio design that create mood and enhance the gaming experience;
- You will create your own portfolio – a collection of creative and professional work that not only demonstrates your abilities, but also trains you to confidently present and justify your ideas in the industry.
Where can you do an internship?
At game development studios, design studios, multimedia companies, advertising agencies, as well as through the ERASMUS+ program opportunities for internships abroad.
Aims and objectives of the study programme
Aims of the study programme::
- To provide students with knowledge, skills and competencies set in design and computer game design and graphics according to the 6th level of the framework defined in the Latvian education classification.
- Train designers, who possess extensive knowledge of game design and art, specific skills in computer games development, technology, graphic design and art project management and the competence that allows them to be competitive in the labour market in Latvia and abroad, as well as perform creative activity in the status of self-employed.
Study programme objectives:
- Provide the study process that meets the requirements of regulatory enactments and labour market, as well as a student-centred approach to higher education.
- Ensure the acquisition of basic and specialised knowledge and skills specific for the profession of design industry (especially computer game design) and graphic designer, their critical understanding and compliance with the highest level of industry achievements in art and technology.
- Provide teaching staff qualification in design, research and creative activities.
- Provide and develop scientific research and creative activity in the study programme.
- Provide and develop the infrastructure and facilities in accordance with the study programme implementation needs.
- Develop international collaboration with related higher education institutions, enterprises and organizations.
