INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND LOGISTICS

Logistics is not just about moving goods – it is a strategic sector that ensures the competitiveness of companies and countries in the global market. Latvia′s geographical location makes it an important logistics hub in Europe, so qualified specialists are in demand at all levels.

This program is suitable for those who value order, organization, and the desire to solve practical problems in international trade and logistics. Whether you are interested in transport flows, customs procedures, or warehouse management, this program will allow you to develop your strengths.

Degree to be achieved: Logistics specialist qualification

Accreditation: Study direction is accredited till July 1, 2027.

Admission requirements: general secondary or secondary professional education.

  • International marketing and trade – you will understand global trade processes.
  • Warehouse work organization and inventory management – you will learn to manage resources effectively.
  • Procurement organization – you will ensure the continuity of the supply chain.
  • Project management – you will plan and implement logistics projects.
  • Microeconomics and macroeconomics – you will understand economic processes.
  • Basics of accounting – you will learn financial accounting in the context of logistics.
  • Commercial negotiation management – you will develop negotiation skills.
  • Occupational, environmental, and civil protection – you will ensure a safe working environment.

 

What will you do?

  • You will plan and organize logistics processes in the company.
  • You will analyse and improve the efficiency of the logistics chain.
  • You will use logistics information systems for data processing and analysis.
  • You will conduct research in the areas of goods movement, storage, and transportation.
  • You will work in a team and make independent decisions on logistics issues.

 

Where will you be able to do your internship?

In state and municipal institutions, companies, non-governmental organizations, Riga Airport, Riga Free Port, and other logistics structures. Regular study trips to leading companies in the industry will provide practical experience.

Aims of the study programme

Aims of the study programme:

  • To provide students with a set of knowledge, skills and competence in logistics according to the 5th level of the framework defined in the Latvian education classification.
  • Train specialists in logistics with analytical and systemic thinking, whose knowledge, skills and competences allow to perform practical tasks in their profession.

Study programme objectives:

  • Provide a study process that complies with the laws and requirements of the labour market, as well as student-centred approach in higher education.
  • To promote qualification development of the teaching staff in educational and scientific fields.
  • To provide and develop research activities in the study programme.
  • To provide and develop infrastructure and facilities under the study programme implementation needs.
  • To develop international collaboration with related higher education institutions, enterprises and organizations.

Learning outcomes of the study programme:

Knowledge (knowledge and understanding)

  • Understands the key concepts and regularities
  • Understands the role of logistics in organising a successful company′s business activity.

Skills(ability to apply knowledge, communication skills, general skills)

  • Can plan logistics processes at the enterprise.
  • Can organise logistics processes at the enterprise.
  • Is able to reasonably discuss practical questions about the implementation and management of logistic processes at the enterprise.
  • Can argue their opinion in the prevention of logistic problems.
  • Is able to develop their own knowledge and skills in the logistics sector independently.
  • Is able to independently plan and organise their work.
  • Is able to work in a team.

Competence (analysis, synthesis, evaluation)

  • Can find creative solutions for prevention of logistic problems.
  • Is able to describe and analyse practical problems in the logistics sector using a variety of special methods.
  • Is able to use and process various types of information and statistics using logistic information systems.
