Academic Master Study Programme

BRAND DESIGN

Creative management. Strategic design. Visual identity.

The Master′s program in Brand Design is the only program of its kind in Latvia that integrates design thinking, visual communication, strategic management, marketing, and digital technologies into a unified, interdisciplinary approach. The aim of the program is to prepare a new generation of design leaders who are able to create, develop, and manage brands in today′s complex and dynamic cultural environment.

Studies are conducted in close collaboration with industry professionals, researchers, and creative industry experts. Students have the opportunity to work with real brands and develop their own individual research and design strategies.

 

Program highlights:

  • Design thinking and problem solving – a creative and structured approach to solving brand challenges;
  • Visual identity and communication – the visual code of a brand in different media and contexts;
  • UX/UI and service design – experience design as added value for the brand;
  • Strategic management and brand management – brand sustainability, development, and reputation;
  • Intercultural communication and research – brand behavior in a global environment.

 

During the program, students learn:

  • How to develop original, innovative, and functional brand design solutions;
  • How to combine creativity with technology and business thinking to create solutions that are understandable and emotionally effective for users;
  • How to manage brand communication across different platforms while maintaining consistency and visual quality;
  • How to conduct in-depth design and branding research, creating new approaches and methods for the professional environment.

 

Graduates of the program become strategic design managers, branding experts, creative directors, and UX designers who work in creative agencies and internal design and marketing teams of companies in Latvia and abroad.

 

Degree to be achieved: Academic Master of Humanitarian Sciences in Design

Period of studies: 2 years

Language: Latvian

Accreditation: Study direction is accredited till January 18, 2030.

Admission requirements

Previous education:

  • Bachelor degree of Arts
  • Bachelor′s degree or second level professional higher education in economics or management
  • Bachelor of Science degree in computer science with at least 2 years of experience while in charge of a company or one of its departments
  • English level B2 or International English language certificate:
    TOEFL iBT – 72+
    TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) - 513+
    IELTS - 5.5 - 6.0
    TOEIC – 605+
    FCE (First Certificate in English) – 160+
    CAE (Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English) – 160+

Technical provision:

  • Computer for projects and professional portfolio development (recommended Apple MacBook);
  • Special software (Illustrator CC, Photoshop un Lightroom, Adobe Effects) – it should be installed before courses will start (according to course instructors requirements).

Aim and Learning outcomes

Aim of the Study programme:

  • To provide students with a set of knowledge, skills and competencies in design, who are then able to create the visual identity and visual communication of an organization in accordance with its business philosophy, using contemporary design and information technology solutions.

Learning outcomes of the Study programme:

Knowledge

  • Know and understand brand design creation process.
  • Know modern brand-building design principles.
  • Know research methods in the field of design.

Skills

  • Able to create a brand design, reflecting an organization′s philosophy, the target audience, market demand.
  • Able to use modern information technology solutions for brand design and visual communication development.
  • Able to provide arguments in discussing brand design and visual identity building aspects.
  • Able to independently organize and carry out a study in design.
  • Able to reflect in writing and orally present the tasks carried out or the results of research.
  • Able to create a design project, which includes visual identity, product design, visual communication with the consumer.

Competences

  • Able to independently formulate and critically analyze scientific and professional problems of brand design and visual identity creation.
  • Able to generate ideas and provide solutions in brand design, integrating an organization′s philosophy and using modern information technology tools.

Period of studies

Full-time studies - 2 years

Study schedule is designed for employed students and those who have other important tasks during the day:

  • on-line video lectures  according to study schedule from 18:30 to 20:30 twice a week (IMPORTANT: those are online lectures not records, thus professors and students can communicate, show different documents, answer questions etc.);
  • all lectures later could be watched as records until the end of the study course (very important to those who cannot attend lectures due to objective reasons or are late to lectures);
  • seminars, teamwork, discussions, consultations - on Saturdays according to study schedule from 09:00 to 17:00
