"Underground" – a floor just for students
In order to gradually introduce the design and layout of the new EKA University of Applied Sciences, we will reveal what advantages the new building will bring to students, employees and teaching staff floor by floor. Just as we go up a staircase, let’s start with the lower ground floor, moving higher and higher, thus and you will be able to learn more and more in each article.
Each floor in the new building is given a separate name that embodies the functions and meaning of the rooms on the corresponding floor. Introducing each floor, we will also tell you about its name and why it was chosen. The name of the 0th floor is "Underground" and there will be more space allocated directly to the Student Council to meet, plan events, generate new ideas and actively work in the interests of the development of the university and all students.
Why exactly "Underground"? If we analyse the meaning of this concept, we can conclude that it refers to movements, cultural expressions or artistic expressions against the flow of tradition, canon and official culture. "Underground" provides alternative or experimental ideas, new, creative and unusual solutions.
Although "Underground" is on the lower ground floor, or 0th floor, the rooms are bright and spacious. When thinking about which rooms or auditoriums to place on this floor, we decided on the Student Council in order to give students more autonomy. The premises have already been presented to the team, and it is the Student Council that will themselves come up with the concept and with proposals for equipping the premises and creating a design. The premises are designed for both formal work events and informal moments of relaxation.
EKA students are active, creative and motivated, so we are sure that modern and spacious facilities will also contribute to the emergence of new ideas. Similar to how world-class achievements have developed from various underground music groups or artists, we are sure that EKA′s "Underground" rooms and the ideas created in them will also contribute to the development of the university.
