From April 9 to 11, 2024, a seminar and meeting took place in Belgrade, Serbia, during which representatives of the EKA University of Applied Sciences (EKA) together with the partners of the "Circular STEM" project from Serbia, Germany, Italy, Spain and Portugal evaluated the results so far, and also discussed further activities. In less than a year, a focus groups have been organized, six learning modules and practical workshops have been developed.

During the seminar where the partners presented the work done, the director of the EKA study program "Circular economy and social entrepreneurship" Mg.oec. Edgars Čerkovskis presented the learning module "Digital Literacy and Tools in the Circular Economy", which he developed as part of the project. The module includes topics on virtual and augmented reality, blockchains, big data and the Internet of Things. It will be published and available to all interested parties. The project participant, the vice director of Riga Distance Education High School in the field of information technologies, Ričards Kalniņš, also took an active part in the seminar.

"This project gave me not only the opportunity to gain new knowledge about the circular economy, but also to get involved in international cooperation, broadening my horizons and getting new ideas from colleagues from other countries," Ričardas Kalniņš is confident after his visit to Belgrade. "This will help me develop both professional and personal competence by participating in the development of new teaching methodologies and technologies that promote innovation and modern approaches in the educational process by combining STEM with the circular economy model."

On the last day of the meeting, in the discussion of project results and next steps, the EKA University of Applied Sciences was represented by Edgars Čerkovskis and the project manager of the EKA Scientific Institution, Dr.oec. Kaspars Šteinbergs.

International project “Circular STEM" aims to integrate the circular economy into schools by providing STEM subject teachers with the necessary skills to be able to adapt school curricula to include this topic. 

Project “Boosting Circular Economy Competences for STEM Teachers” (Circular STEM) is financed and supported by the European Commission, Erasmus + Programme, KA220-SCH - Cooperation partnerships in school education (Project grant agreement No. 2022-1-PT01-KA220-SCH-000086954).
