ECO-ESCAPER PROJECT

EKA University of Applied Sciences, together with its partners, has launched a new Erasmus+ project titled “The Use of Digital Escape Rooms as an Immersive Learning Environment for Advancing Climate Literacy Education in Secondary Schools (Eco-Escaper)”.
The project aims to enhance climate literacy among European secondary school students by strengthening teachers’ competencies through innovative, gamified learning methods.
Project Objectives
The Eco-Escaper project seeks to improve climate literacy among students in European secondary schools within the framework of the EU’s 2030 climate and energy goals.
To achieve this, the project will empower teachers with innovative tools and methodologies - particularly through the use of digital escape rooms - to make climate education more engaging, immersive, and effective.
The project involves close collaboration among eight international partners.
Implementation
Eco-Escaper is structured around five work packages:
- WP1 – Project management: Ensuring effective coordination, quality assurance, and progress monitoring.
- WP2 – Gamified online course: Developing an online training course for teachers on using escape rooms in climate education.
- WP3 – Escape room generator: Creating a web-based tool that enables teachers to design and implement climate-themed escape rooms.
- WP4 – Gamified community platform: Building an online community that promotes collaboration and sharing of educational resources among teachers.
- WP5 – Dissemination and impact: Promoting project results and ensuring sustainability beyond the project’s lifetime.
Expected Outcomes
Through its five work packages, Eco-Escaper will deliver three key results:
- A gamified online course for approximately 440 teachers, enhancing their skills and confidence in delivering climate literacy education through escape rooms.
- A comprehensive toolbox, including an escape room generator, allowing teachers to create interactive, climate-focused learning experiences.
- A gamified online community for collaboration and resource sharing, establishing a sustainable European network for innovation in climate education.
