EKA lectures on Gamification
Within the framework of the international project “Accelerating ICT students′ start-up development competence via interdisciplinary modular courses in the HEI curricula” (UXiship), representatives of EKA University of Applied Sciences prepared lectures for Russian and Kazakh partners:
Introduction to Game Design, delivered online in open BBB platform
The main focus of the lecture is game design as structured process for entertainment, education and business. The lecture includes information about most important game design concepts and their practical applications.
Lecturer: Dr. Kaspars Šteinbergs, EKA University of applied Sciences (Latvia).
He is an expert in using games/VR in education and his research interests are management in creative industries, audiovisual sector development. Kaspars was a founding director of study programme “Computer Game Design and Graphics” (2018-2021). In recent years, he has worked together with the industry to develop games intended to foster health literacy for children and to use VR in distance learning. Dr. Šteinbergs is a member of the Higher Education Video Game Alliance and the board member of the Latvian Game Developers Association.

The lecture on Gamification aims at introducing students to the uses of game design elements (such as online games or apps) in non-game contexts.
Lecturer: Mg. Edgars Čerkovskis, EKA University of applied Sciences (Latvia).
He has created and runs more than 10 innovative study courses in several Latvian universities – Digital Economy, Digital Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Tools, etc. Edgars trained more than 600 school principals throughout Latvia and educated about 5,000 teachers on various issues related to digitization. He is the author of several digital tools, such as the Virtual Economy Cabinet and several simulation online games for students. The digital materials, programs and methods developed by Cerkovskis are still used in the largest Latvian learning centers – Riga Distance Learning Secondary School, European Distance Learning Center, Latvian Distance Learning Professional Center and European Distance Learning Secondary School. One of the most important works is the development and approbation of the Education Quality Index in Latvian schools, as well as the introduction of Virtual Reality in 3 Latvian schools.
