SCIENTIFIC COUNCIL

The EKA Scientific Council was established on August 23, 2021 by the decision of the Board of the EKA University of Applied Sciences. Its regulation was approved on August 26, 2021 at the EKA Senate meeting. The first meeting of the Scientific Council was organized on September 16, 2021.


The competence of the Scientific Council includes:

  • Determination of EKA′s priority research directions;
  • Recommending EKA scientific textbooks for publication;
  • Preparation of proposals for the EKA Senate for the development of scientific activity at the EKA;
  • Staff election for the positions of researcher, leading researcher and research assistant;
  • Evaluating the work performance of EKA professors and associate professors (Article 34(3) of the Law on Universities) and submitting an opinion to the Rector of EKA;
  • Reviewing documents that regulate scientific activities and submitting them for approval to the EKA Senate;
  • Election of the Director/Head of the EKA Scientific Institution.

Oksana LentjušenkovaDr. Oksana LENTJUŠENKOVA is a Professor at the EKA University of Applied Sciences (Latvia); she also holds an administrative position as a Rector of EKA University of Appried Sciences. In 2006 – 2015 she worked in Alberta College as a director of college. She has teaching experience since 2000.

Dr. Oksana LENTJUŠENKOVA is an expert in the field of Economics and Entrepreneurship of the Latvian Council of Science. Her research interests are focused in the field of intellectual capital management, quality assurance and strategic management.

Jeļena TitkoDr. Jelena TITKO graduated from Riga Technical University (2005) and defended her dissertation in 2012. In 2008-2015 worked at Riga Technical University as an academic staff member and a researcher. Currently, holds the positions of the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation and the Professor at EKA University of Applied Sciences, as well as a researcher at the Institute of Economics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LATVIA).

She is an expert of the Latvian Council of Science in the field of Economics and Entrepreneurship and Education management.The author of more than 70 scientific papers in the field of economics, business, management and education. Expert representing Latvia in Eurydice study “Digital Education at School in Europe”.

Jelena Titko is an Editor-in-Chief of the journal “Economics and Culture” and a member of a scientific board of the journal "Business, Management and Economics Engineering".

Inga ŠīnaDr. Inga SHINA is a Professor at the EKA University of Applied Sciences (Latvia). She also holds an administrative position as the Program Director of Master degree program Business Administration and Bachelor′s program Marketing.

Dr. Shina is an expert in the field Economics and Entrepreneurship of the Latvian Council of Science; an author of more than 30 scientific papers in the field of economics, business, management and education, corporate social and environmental responsibility; co-author of two books: Vide un ekonomika (Environment and Economics) and Green Economics: Policy and Practice in Eastern Europe.

She is the head of EU Eurydice project, which compiles analytical reports on European national education systems and current education policy issues. She is the Managing Editor of the Scientific Journal “Economics and Business”.

Inga Shina has 30 years of experience in the banking industry as a vice-president. She has 17 years of experience in the field of non-governmental organizations as the chairwomen of one of the biggest private charity funds. She is certified Academic Information Centre Expert in Accreditation.

Karina ZalcmaneDr. Karina ZALCMANE is the Vice-Rector for Studies and Development at EKA University of Applied Sciences, as well as an Associate Professor. She is a member of the board of the International Association of Sports Law and an expert in the field of law of the Latvian Council of Sciences.

Dr. Zalcmane is a co-author of the first scientific monograph in Latvia “Sports Law: Current Problems, Challenges and Latest Trends.” In early 2024, she and her colleague received the most prestigious international grant in the field of sports – the FIFA Research Scholarship.

Dr Zalcmane’s research interests include criminology and sports law issues.

Vita ZariņaDr. Vita ZARINA is an Associated Professor at the EKA University of Applied Sciences. She has a practical work experience as a chief accountant and director of the Finance Department.

She is an editor-in-chief of the professional magazine Bilance, has published there several articles, organized round-table discussions on actual topics. Participated in the organization of international and professional conferences, as well as presented with researches in several international scientific conferences, published researches in scientific journals and proceedings, author and co-author of several textbooks and monographs.

Kristine Uzule

Dr. Kristīne UŽULE is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and a leading researcher at EKA University of Applied Sciences. She also coordinates two research directions at EKA University of Applied Sciences: (1) Social Impact Research and (2) Inclusivity and Diversity in Higher Education. She has been a managing editor of the EKA scientific journal Economics and Culture, which is indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.

Dr. Užule is an expert of the Latvian Council of Science in economics and entrepreneurship, as well as in educational sciences. She received one of her Master′s degrees in Linguistics from Stony Brook University (State University of New York), USA, and another in Management from the Transport and Telecommunication Institute in Riga, Latvia.

Kristīne Užule received her Ph.D. from the University of Birmingham, where she conducted her doctoral research in the Cognitive Experimental Psychology Lab. She also completed her postdoctoral studies on ethnic minority integration in the Department of European Languages and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh, UK. Dr. Užule has published papers on entrepreneurship and management, the gig economy, digital competences, and education in a variety of contexts.

Her current research focuses particularly on inclusive higher education for people with special needs, social impact creation, and applications of the Integrated Reporting Framework. Her broader research interests also include labour issues, entrepreneurship, and sustainable practices in the context of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Jevgenija DehtjareDr. Jevgenija DEHTJARE is an Associate Professor and researcher at EKA University of Applied Sciences. She is Certified Career Coach, member of EUMMAS (European Marketing and Management Association) and Network IQ community.

Graduated from Riga Technical University and worked at ISMA University of Applied Sciences (Latvia) as Business Administration in Tourism program director, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and researcher.

The author of more than 55 scientific papers in the field of economics, business, management, tourism, hospitality and education.

Kaspars SteinbergsKaspars STEINBERGS is is an Associate Professor and Researcher at the EKA University of Applied Sciences (Latvia). He holds a PhD in Business Management and teaches strategic management, change management and management-related subjects at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.

His research interests include university–industry collaboration, creative industries, digital transformation, innovation ecosystems and strategic management. Since 2017, he has also served as an expert in higher education quality assurance and has participated in the evaluation and accreditation of study programmes and higher education institutions.

Dr. Steinbergs initiated and developed the first higher education study programme in Computer Game Development in the Baltic States.

He is an author and co-author of scientific publications on creative industries, innovation, digital transformation and Triple Helix collaboration, and has participated in and led work packages in international Erasmus+, EIT Higher Education Initiative and other European research and educational projects.
