6 steps of admission for international students

Step 1

Document Preparation Requirements

Language: All documents must be submitted in Latvian or English. If original documents are in another language, they must be translated into English, and the translation must be notarized. It is required to send both the original and the translated version of the document.

File Format and Submission: All documents must be sent in one email. ZIP files are not accepted. Documents must be scanned copies (not photos).Each document must be submitted as a separate file and clearly named (e.g., “Passport_Smith”), except for educational documents, which must be combined into one PDF file.

Required Documents

Please ensure that the following documents are included in your submission:

  • Completed application form (Word format, filled in digitally- not by hand)
  • Scanned copy of passport
  • If an applicant has changed name or surname, it is required to provide a copy of the document confirming change of name or surname (AFFIDAVIT)
  • Applicants for bachelor’s degree should submit a notarized copy of general secondary education diploma + transcript of records (GPA ≥ 60%)
  • Applicants for master’s degree are required to submit a notarized copy of general secondary education diploma + bachelor’s degree diploma (GPA ≥ 60%)+ transcript of records.
  • CV + motivation letter (PDF file) – only for Masters
  • Copy of international English language certificate (original must be shown upon arrival)

FCE (First Certificate in English) – 160+

CAE (Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English) – 160+

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE A) – 59+

Cambridge English Linguaskill – 160+

LanguageCert IESOL  - B2 (80+) 

  • If you do not have above mentioned certificate, but your previous education was fully tought in English, please provide a copy of a letter (MOI) from the educational institution which approves this fact.

Step 2

If you are eligible for studies, you will receive an invoice for the registration fee within 7 days. Registration fee includes document processing, organisation of Diploma recognition by the Academic Information Centre of Latvia (AIC) (Sākums - Akadēmiskās informācijas centrs– the necessary procedure to start studies at any of Latvia’s higher education institutions), and issuing the invitation and consultation when preparing documents to receive a residence permit in an EU country. Registration fee is 300 EUR.

Once we receive your payment, we will send you the testing details, including an access to the online test (for Bachelor applicants only). After you complete the test, we will inform you of the results.

ATTENTION! THE UNIVERSITY DOES NOT COVER THE BANK TRANSFER FEES, THESE MUST BE ADDED BY PAYER TO THE TRANSFERRED AMOUNT.

Applicants who correctly answer 60–100% of the test questions, as well as all Master’s students, must complete the next stage - an interview. To participate, you will need a computer with a camera and microphone. You will be informed about the procedure. If you pass the test and/or interview.

Step 3

EKA sends your education documents to AIC for recognition (takes approximately 1 monthand 2 weeks to get an answer). Tuition fee must be paid only after receiving a positive decision from AIC and successfully passing the test and the interview.

After academic recognition of foreign qualification from AIC, EKA sends an applicant a written confirmation and a Study Agreement.

EKA prepares invitation for you to start visa procedure and sends you by email following documents:

  • A reference with an invitation number provided by The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA)
  • Signed Study Agreement
  • A copy of certificate confirming academic recognition of foreign qualification (AIC)

Document processing for residence permit

After arriving to Riga you have to visit the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) to claim residence permit and order an ID card. http://www.pmlp.gov.lv/en/home/services/residence-permits/procedure-of-registration-of-the-residence-permit.html

By the moment you receive ID card you have to prepare:

  • Original note of fluorography or X-ray examination results
  • Health insurance policy (for full residence permit period, including repatriation, coverage territory: Latvia and Schengen area)

EU citizen must apply for the registration certificate in person at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) in Riga within 90 days as of the first day of entry, if EU citizen resides in the Republic of Latvia for longer than 90 days counting from the first day of entry.

Congratulations! You have successfully completed the procedure of receiving residence permit and got a positive answer.

In case you have problems with Diploma recognition, visa, or residence permit or you cannot start studies at EKA University of Applied Sciences(EKA), registration fee is not refundable. Tuition fee is being refunded upon written request of a student before start of studies.

3 steps of admission for local students

Step 1: Prepare and Submit Your Application

You can apply either online or in person.

Online Application:

Visit the official EKA application portal.

Fill out the application form and upload the following documents:

  • Copy of your passport or ID card (both sides).
  • Copy of your general secondary education certificate.
  • Copy of your transcript of records.
  • Copies of centralized exam certificates (from 2004 onwards).
  • Motivation letter.
  • Photograph (portrait, white or light background, face uncovered).
  • If applicable, a document confirming any name change (e.g., marriage certificate).
  • Payment order or proof of 30.00 EUR application fee payment.

To study in English, you must demonstrate at least B2 level English proficiency (approximately 65% or Grade 7).

In-Person Application:

  • Visit the EKA Admissions Office at Pērnavas iela 62, Rīga.
  • Submit the same documents listed above.
  • Pay the 30.00 EUR application fee.

Step 2: Await Confirmation and Study Agreement

After submitting your application, EKA will review your documents.

If eligible, you will receive:

  • Confirmation of acceptance.
  • Study Agreement.

You will be contacted via email with instructions on how to sign the Study Agreement.

Step 3: Finalize Enrollment

Sign the Study Agreement:

  • Electronically with a secure signature.
  • In person at EKA.
  • By printing, signing, and mailing the agreement.

Submit the following documents:

  • Signed Study Agreement.
  • Payment proof for the tuition fee.
  • Copy of your passport or ID card.
