MoU Signed and Project Results Discussed at the Final Conference

On 19 June 2025, the final conference of the project “Promoting Circular Economy Competences for STEM Teachers” (Circular STEM) was held in Riga at EKA University of Applied Sciences.

During the conference, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed — a voluntary commitment by interested parties to implement the project’s methodology and use its tools in education, integrate digital skills into STEM subjects, promote inclusive STEM education, disseminate results, raise public awareness online, and achieve new outcomes with the support of various institutions.

During the event, EKA signed a Memorandum of Understanding with:

  • Riga Distance Learning Secondary School, represented by Acting Director Jolanta Batina,
  • Adult Non-Formal Education Institution “PANĀKUMU UNIVERSS”, represented by Board Member Kristiāna Kalniņa.

The final conference also included discussion on the implementation of the project in schools. Participants were introduced to the key results achieved during the project:

  • Development of training materials and presentations,
  • Teacher training carried out in Serbia,
  • Design and pilot testing of the CIRCULAR STEM Academy,
  • Preparation of a policy paper to be distributed to 300 stakeholders,
  • Organisation of the final international conference in Milan,
  • Creation of a project website and establishment of social media channels.

The final conference of the Circular STEM project confirmed the collective achievements of the partnership and paved the way for further cooperation in the modernisation of education. The active participation of EKA, along with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, reflects the university’s long-term strategy for advancing the circular economy and sustainable education — strengthening its role as a centre for innovation and knowledge in Latvia and Europe.

Project “Boosting Circular Economy Competences for STEM Teachers” (Circular STEM) is financed and supported by the European Commission, Erasmus + Programme, KA220-SCH - Cooperation partnerships in school education (Project grant agreement No. 2022-1-PT01-KA220-SCH-000086954).
