COOPERATION: THE INSTITUTE OF ECONOMICS OF THE LATVIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
The Institute of Economics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences is a scientific and research institution registered in the Register of Scientific Institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia. The Institute’s activities are focused on the study of economic issues relevant to Latvia and Europe, as well as on the development of innovative and scientifically grounded solutions.
The mission of the Institute is to promote the development of the Latvian economy at regional and national levels by providing research-based expert assessments, opinions, and recommendations on economic processes in Latvia, the Baltic States, and Europe. The Institute pays particular attention to the interaction between science, education, technology, and culture, the development of a knowledge-based society, and cooperation among researchers, entrepreneurs, social partners, and educational institutions.
The areas of activity of the Institute of Economics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences cover a wide range of economic and societal development issues, including research on the business environment in the Baltic States, cooperation between science and business, social entrepreneurship, youth involvement in science, the quality of education and the development of STEM fields, women’s entrepreneurship and women’s participation in science, human capital development, gender equality issues, regional development, tourism development opportunities, energy efficiency, and the analysis of national economic development policy.
The Institute conducts research, implements projects, provides expertise, and offers consultations in the fields of economics, social sciences, and interdisciplinary research. Its activities are also related to the provision of scientific consultations, support for the development of publications and doctoral theses, as well as the preparation of policy recommendations aimed at promoting economic growth, innovation, and sustainable development.
EKA’s cooperation with the Institute of Economics of the Latvian Academy of Sciences strengthens the University’s engagement in economic research, cooperation between science and business, sustainable development, social entrepreneurship, circular economy, and financial literacy. This cooperation is important both for the development of research capacity and for the involvement of academic staff and students in scientific discussions, conferences, and interdisciplinary research processes.
