MEMBERSHIP: THE NATIONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY WORKING GROUP COORDINATED BY LATVIJAS BANKA
The National Financial Literacy Working Group coordinated by Latvijas Banka brings together partners from the public, private, academic, and non-governmental sectors to promote the improvement of financial literacy among the population of Latvia and to support the implementation of the Latvian Financial Literacy Strategy 2021–2027.
EKA has been active in the field of financial literacy since 2015, implementing research, educational, and public awareness activities, as well as participating in national and international cooperation projects. EKA’s involvement in the National Financial Literacy Working Group coordinated by Latvijas Banka strengthens the University’s contribution to the development of financial literacy, investment culture, responsible financial behaviour, and economic education in Latvia.
Latvijas Banka is responsible for the area of financial literacy in Latvia and coordinates cooperation between public, non-governmental, and private sector institutions to improve the financial skills of Latvia’s population. The aim of the Strategy is to improve people’s financial skills and to promote financial security and sustainability.
The objectives of the Working Group are to:
- develop a sustainability-oriented financial literacy culture and improve people’s financial competences;
- promote a high-quality, safe financial environment that meets people’s needs;
- strengthen a strategic and cooperation-based approach to the development of financial literacy in Latvia;
- involve public, private, academic, and non-governmental sector partners in the implementation of joint financial literacy initiatives;
- develop financial literacy research, educational initiatives, and public awareness activities.
Until 2027, the priority areas in the field of financial literacy are strengthening the financial literacy of pupils and teachers, improving investment culture, promoting responsible borrowing and solutions to financial difficulties, and developing financial literacy research.
