Language: Latvian

Degree to be achieved: Bachelor′s Degree in Social Sciences in Law

Accreditation: Study direction is accredited till April 22, 2027.

 

What will you learn?

  • Comprehensive legal knowledge: constitutional law, civil law, criminal law, administrative law, European Union and international law.
  • Preparation of legal documents: practical skills in drafting contracts, applications, and other documents.
  • Court proceedings simulations: analysis and resolution of real-life situations in group work.
  • Legal English: learning and applying terminology.
  • Practical experience: cooperation with companies, state and local government institutions.
  • Critical thinking and argumentation skills: ability to analyse and justify decisions.

 

What will you do?

  • Analyse legislation: resolve legal situations by applying theoretical knowledge.
  • Prepare legal documents: draft contracts, applications, and other documents.
  • Participate in court simulations: analyse and resolve real cases in group work.
  • Collaborate with legal entities and gain experience in companies, state and municipal institutions.
  • Develop critical thinking, argumentation, and problem-solving skills: the ability to analyse and justify decisions.

 

Where can you do an internship?

In state and local government institutions, companies, non-governmental organizations, courts, prosecutor′s offices, law firms, and other legal institutions.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to gain international experience by participating in ERASMUS+ programs and going on internships abroad, for which you will receive a scholarship.

Aims of the study programme

Aim of the study programme:

  • To provide students with knowledge, skills and competencies set in legal science according to the 6th level of the framework defined in the Latvian education classification.

Study programme objectives:

  • Provide a study process that complies with the laws and requirements of the labour market, as well as student-centred approach in higher education.
  • To promote qualification development of the teaching staff in educational and scientific fields.
  • To provide and develop research activities in the study programme.
  • To provide and develop infrastructure and facilities under the study programme implementation needs.
  • To develop international collaboration with related higher education institutions, enterprises and organizations.

Learning outcomes of the study programme:

Knowledge (knowledge and understanding)

  • Knows and understands the principles and patterns of legal science.
  • Knows the sources of law, legal norms, methods of interpretation and application.
  • Is knowledgeable in Latvian, international and transnational legal system.

Skills(ability to apply knowledge, communication skills, general skills)

  • Is able to use and apply legal knowledge and practical skills.
  • Is able to conduct research on the current events of law and interpret their results.
  • Is able to present the results of the conducted research.
  • Is able to defend their views and argue in the debate about current events in the field of legal science.
  • Is able to independently organise their work.
  • Is able to work in a team

Competence (analysis, synthesis, evaluation)

  • Is able to acquire, analyse, evaluate and systematize information.
  • Is able to use information in taking decisions in the legal science sphere.
  • Can find solutions to professional activities and/or problems identified in the study.
