Information technology (IT) is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, and the demand for qualified IT specialists continues to grow. By studying information technology, you will not only gain technical skills, but also the ability to analyse problems, work in a team, and manage projects, which are essential in today′s job market.

Degree to be achieved: Professional Bachelor Degree in Computer Science and Programming Engineer

Accreditation: Study programme is accredited until December 7, 2029.

 

What will you learn?

  • System analysis and design: You will acquire the skills to analyse and design information systems that meet user needs.

  • Develop applications and information systems: You will carry out the entire system development cycle – from analysis to implementation.
  • Manage IT projects: You will plan, organize, and manage IT projects, ensuring their successful implementation.

Where will you be able to do your internship?

    • In companies and organizations: You will do an internship in IT companies, gaining experience in real projects.
    • In state and local government institutions: You will gain experience in public administration, working on various IT solutions.
    • In non-governmental organizations: You will collaborate with NGOs, developing and implementing IT solutions.

Study programme aims and objectives

Aims:

  • to provide students with a set of knowledge, skills and competence in IT according to the 6th level of the framework defined in the Latvian education classification;
  • train programming engineers for professional information technology industry, whose knowledge, skills and abilities meet the demands of modern labour market.


Objectives:

  • ensure a process of study meeting the requirements of legislation, labour market and occupational qualifications, as well as the targeted access of students to higher education;
  • to promote qualification development of the teaching staff in educational and scientific fields;
  • to provide and develop research activities in the study programme;
  • to provide and develop infrastructure and facilities under the study programme implementation needs;
  • to develop international collaboration with related higher education institutions, enterprises and organizations.

Full time studies (4 years)

Specialist in economics and social sciences, administrator of computer systems and networks. 20 years of experience working in the IT industry (administration of computer systems and networks, IT project management, implementation, maintenance, and support of new software and technologies). Several years of experience in the development, implementation, management, improvement, and advancement of the "Information Technology" study program

Andrejs Liepiņš, Mg.Sc.Comp., Docent

Engineer qualification in computer systems, pedagogical specialization certificate, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCP, MCTS, MCITP, MCDBA certificates), Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT certificate). Multiple awards from the Ministry of Education and Science and the Cabinet of Ministers. Experienced in the development and management of study programs, with several personally developed study courses.

Egmonts Treiguts, Mg. Phys., Docent

iOS developer, with several years of experience in implementing and improving the "Information Technology" study program. Experienced in leading courses on web technology programming and mobile application development for the iOS platform.

Patriks Morevs, Mg.Sc.Ing., Mg.Math., Docent

Mathematician, programmer, web developer, researcher. Extensive experience in managing and improving study courses in Information Technology, Mathematics, Web Design, and Computer Architecture. Participant in IT projects and author of various IT-related publications.

Maksims Žigunovs, Mg.Sc.Ing.,

Visiting Lecturer Lecturer in programming and mathematics, Unreal Engine engineer. Researcher specializing in the development of new technologies and software. Extensive experience in managing and improving study courses in Engineering Modeling, System Modeling and Simulation, and Information Systems Security. Mārcis Pinnis, Dr. Sc. Comp., assistant professor

Researcher SIA Tilde. Main activities and responsibilities: research and development of new language technologies, participation in Europe-wide research projects, dissemination of research results. Mārcis has Master’s of Philosophy Degree in Computer Speech, Text and Internet Technology from St. Edmund’s College (Faculty of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, United Kingdom and PhD in Computer Science (Dr.sc.comp.) from University of Latvia, Riga, Latvia. Title of PhD thesis: “Terminology Integration in Statistical Machine Translation”
